A reading from the book of rooster:
Hello again phrens,
It seems my proposal to join the Community Leader team has encountered more than token resistance. I don’t mind controversial but I would prefer not be de divisive. As such it seems it’s in the best interest of the DAO for me to not pursue it further…but don’t think you’ve heard the last of me.
If I might be so bold; for a bunch of motivated and capable Phononites, we sure are an uncoordinated mess.
We all know which direction we need to move, we all have ideas on how to get there, and we differ wildly in how we go about executing this.
It’s a hard spot to be in. On the one hand we’re flying by the seat on our pants, and on the other we’re setting precedent with everything we do.
I believe as phon/ongod does; that our DAO is “lucky by default”. The recent pheverdream got me looking into the subject, and I discovered this perfect little pdf. Here’s an except:
Being the peculiar nerd that I am, this got me thinking about reading the spirits. Leaders have always kept on hand people who claim to be able to divine the future. Anyone whose job it is to make good decisions appreciates timely insight, and if that time is “before the thing happens” even better. My point here is that pretty consistently humans seek ways to understand the world without resorting to their senses, per se. That army general’s musings on luck are the spiritual successor to the Roman performing augury on a recently opened goat. For a while it seems that everyone who was about to go into a serious conflict would check in with the mystics first.
I think Rush first mentioned the Quaker Business Practices to me…The general idea is rooted in the Quaker understanding of a unified spirit in all of us, and how efforts centered in that spirit are more likely to be successful.
I see a parallel in the way the spirit of Phonon has risen in all of us. I believe we have a common soul of anarchic cooperation. We recognize this work is too important to put aside because someone else works on it differently.
If we are deliberate and stay centered on this spirit I believe we can build this tech to change the face of history to one with a little more humanity.
So all the way back up top when I pulled back from my bid for community leader…Tuesday’s advice to hang back and think about what I really wanted was appropriate and I should have just listened. Second time’s the charm tho.
Andrew and Tuesdays are both leaders in this group. Whether the role they’ve been elected to actually states this or not, I believe it to be the case. That’s why I went for the community leader role.
I believe myself to be a leader here as well. “Influencing people—by providing purpose, direction, and motivation—while operating to accomplish the mission and improve the organization” sounds like exactly what I aim to do here. I seek a position where I can best serve the DAO with my peculiar set of skills.
It’s important to remember that although the DAO will interact with corporate entities and needs a robust interface for that purpose, it is not and will never be corporate. Not as long as people like pg and myself have a say.
With that in mind, we are not obligated to constrain ourselves to roles that have corporate analogs, so if I may again be so bold: Make me to your spirit leader.
I’m not trying to police the vibe, I’m suggesting to officially acknowledge that there is a vibe and we should reach within ourselves to express it in our work. I think we’ve cultivated a way of doing things here that needs to be acknowledged and grown further.
The mandate of the role I’m seeking is as follows:
Guide the DAO in character and in spirit
Develop and pass a set of constitutional values to approve by 80% snapshot
Suggest improvements and clarifications to the governance structure
Compensation would be symbolic. 69420 PHONON/mo seems fair. I have a lot of ideas already on a constitution and governance upgrades, but I’m happy to sit in this role and gather information for quite some time.
This thing has already run on too long. I encourage everyone to reach out. I consider the job I’m trying to do as largely one of communicating and understanding, and that needs a counterparty.
Thanks for listening to my ted talk. I’ll see you around the discord.
