My fellow retards,
When we research the term network, we get the following:
an interconnected or interrelated chain, group, or system
Primarily in todays usage, “network” is appended to protocols/systems such as bitcoin, Ethereum and other L1s/L2s. Those in the crypto space throw around the term network often, and it is fitting. Most of the systems we see built in cryptosphere are networks. They are connected nodes that can communicate with each other. They form a group of entities that share a communication protocol and are able to relay data between and amongst them.
Once again, the mechanical elves in phon/ongod’s brain goes haywire when we hear phrens talk about the phonon network. It’s like the automatons who created phonon added the word network to the end because…that’s just what projects do. You would expect the founders and early adopters to think twice about naming conventions, but if you’ve never spent time in the discord, you’d know that phonon refers to roughly 6,000 things in this system. Creativity and communications need work, as does everything else. We write this post to try to contribute to the nomenclature.
Calling the elves that reside in phon/ongod’s head a network is more appropriate than calling the phonon system a network. At least the elves use interconnected neurons to pass information on how each personality feels and sees the world. In phonon, everything is done on a completely peer to peer level. There is no central repository, there is no network to traverse. The way the system works is for one phonon-based participant to find another, and then they communicate directly.
There is nothing broadcast to a network of nodes. There is no concept of nodes, not at least in the phonon protocol. We hope that a phonon network is built on top of the protocol to build applications such as a decentralized vpn or incentivized tor, but any network there fits the definition will be with opt in nodes. Phonon protocol would live beneath them as a transport layer that can securely and privately swap private keys.
This is what makes the Phonon project so great. It is VERY MUCH UNLIKE anything else in crypto. Most shit wants more and more users as that will increase the viability of their network (if broadcasting transactions is necessary). This is great when you rely upon proof of work to append transactions to your chain. That shit doesn’t fly in phonon land. There is no blockchain, there is no append only master list of transactions, there is no global consensus on the state of the system, there is no community validation. All the shit we see L1s and L2s rely upon is thrown out the fucking window with Phonon. Instead we rely on trusting code in a secure enclave. The same trust assumptions that run the entire payments subset of the finance industry.
What is the suggestion? Don’t know. Phon/ongod just rambles and dreams and shares posts on this page. Too long on the inside of the head makes it run too hot, so this post is just here to inform you that the term network doesn’t fit. Not given the design of Phonon. Maybe this is all part of the Phonon simulation and the authors of this hellscape are fucking around using misnomers, knowing it will drive the elves crazy…
Phonon DAO discord is a growing bastion of sanity in an insane world.
Tips to phonongod.eth will be invested in bounties that advance the Phonon project.
Hatemail to phonongod@protonmail.com will be scathingly considered.
Targets for the marketcap of PHONON DAO remain:
$1b by Q2 2022, $12b by EOY.
On the high end, $300b marketcap in 3 years.
