My fellow retards –
This is your fourth post. I try to hold your hand and walk you through, but I wont pull you. I will merely guide you, float a few feet ahead, and show you the light.
You must take your opponent into a deep, dark forest where 2+2=5 and the path leading out is only wide enough for one." -Mikhail Tal
I am painting a world wherein your understanding of crypto networks will change. Many of you are new, you want to make a buck. You seek legitimacy and power through finance. That’s fine. I shall not judge. You may think; “/phon/ongod is the retard, I’ve been here since 2017".” That’s cute.
You missed the days of derose and junseth pontificating on what bitcoin actually means. Sometimes I do wish junseth didn’t exit scam with those rare pepes, they were a good team. You also probably never had the privilege of reading the early tweets of @desantis to help you question what these networks mean both in our minds and for humanity.
PHONON network will bring you back to those philosophical weird times. It will guide you new people into a time where the imagination allowed us to dream of truly transformative technologies. Unfortunately many projects today are some dumb copy pasta nft, or a new L1 that has some tiny tweaks and tradeoffs vs the litany of others. I want to pull the curtains and show you what crypto was like when it was weird. I want to hold your hand and lead you into that dark forest where you will question strongly held notions of what you believe these networks are and do. The PHONON network will be your tunnel to an earlier time, one you may have missed, but one that birthed the brilliance of this technology.
Back in the nascent days of Ethereum, I spoke with many engineers and sought to understand the problem. Many of us didn’t know what Ethereum was even for. Go back to devcon1
So we’ve built it. WTF is it?
November 2015, London, maybe 300 people in a sweaty room talking about what the future might actually hold because of Ethereum. However, we didn’t know how it would be used. We didn’t really for-see the proliferation of some aspects of it. What I think is lost now is how many individuals just think of crypto as NFT, or defi, or get rich quick pump and dumb. Back then there was a certain optimism in the air that we now had a platform which we could use, one that we felt would make a difference, even if we didn’t know how.
I haven’t felt those feelings again since diving deep into two other projects: Urbit and PHONON. Urbit is complex, it is made of dreamers, it has that early crypto funk to it. Most new projects these days are made up of opportunists, which is fine in a capitalist society. But the PHONON project brings back the dreams. We have built a new primitive. Now what?
Lucky for PHONON, we know much more about coordination games than we did when Gav presented on Ethereum at devcon1. We now know that when you give people a stake in the network, they will do what they can to improve it. We know that governance systems work, and they exist beautifully within the Ethereum ecosystem. I have absolute faith that that the PHONON DAO governance participants will seed incredible projects and value to the PHONON ecosystem.
We need to go back and imagine a world with eyes just our own, wherein we take the raw data without it being polluted by a narrative. When I first dove deep into bitcoin in 2012 I spent 6 months reading before talking to any humans in person about it. The view I have on the bitcoin network is very much my own, and was shaped by a small community of individuals who were in it for philosophical reasons, not just to get rich. I feel bad for people joining crypto today who will never have that experience. Never able to remove the globohomo narratives and never able to view these systems through their own perspectives. Join the phon/ongod and learn more about the funky and imaginative world of this new network.

phon/ongod out.
Excited to see what else you write about. Very interested in Phonon and how I can start using it.
